Some snow will likely stick around for the Friday morning commute as temperatures continue to drop, so it may be a good idea to slow down.
“Just because you’re in four-wheel drive does not mean that your car is not going to go out of control.
He said to make sure your vehicle’s tires are ready for winter weather and that you drive more cautiously, leave more room between yourself and other vehicles, and allow for longer travel times.
“Be prepared to drive more cautiously than normal, but not 5 miles an hour, either,” he said.
“This is a good time for parents to get in the passenger seat and teach their teen drivers what their car’s systems can and can’t do.”
If clouds stick around, temperatures in the mid-20s are expected, according to the National Weather Service.
Jim Angel, the Illinois state climatologist, said the Chicago area forecast shows an increased chance of warmer and drier conditions in the winter months.
“If you look at snowfall trends across the state, in the last couple years, it’s been pretty wild,” he said.
We’ve had winters where we haven’t had much snow, and then we had 2014 where we had a lot of snow.”
