Northville — When Rima and Rana Abbas were teenagers they would sit in their shared bedroom and talk endlessly about their future.
Rana could share stories for hours about her sister but struggled Friday to find the words as she addressed a crowd of 500 that gathered to honor the memory of Rima, her husband and three children.
Buy PhotoCommunity members brave the cold Friday evening at Ford Field Park in Northville to pay their respects at a candlelight vigil in memory of the Abbas Family — Issam, Rima and their three children Ali, 14, Isabelle, 13 and Giselle, 7,– who all were tragically killed in a wrong-way driver traffic accident in Kentucky last Sunday while returning from a Family vacation.
The crash killed Rima, 38, Issam Abbas, 42, and their children; Ali, 14, Isabelle, 13, and Giselle, 7.
“Rima was my only sibling and AJ, Izzy and Giselle, my only nieces and nephew,” Rana Abbas Taylor said through the tears.
Moe Abbas shed tears recalling a few stories of his brother, Issam, and Rima and the children, who were “his pillars.”
I guess in a way this is how it had to happen because I can’t imagine Issam without Rima or Rima without Issam.
