Edwin R. Enrile of the Ateneo de Manila University and Florin T. Hilbay of the
state-run University of the Philippines (UP) shared top honors in the 1999 Bar,
results of which were released last night by the Supreme Court.
Five other law graduates of Ateneo, along with three others from UP and one
from San Beda College, made it to the Top 10.
Enrile and Hilbay both had 88.5 percent rating to share the first slot.
were followed by Dara C. Acusar, also of Ateneo, with 87.7 percent.
In third place was Francis Joseph H. Ampil (Ateneo) who got 87.2 percent.
A. Refran (Ateneo) picked up the fourth slot with 86.9 percent.
Avila (San Beda) was fifth with 86.55 percent and Randy T. Ceniza (Ateneo de
Davao) in sixth with 86.05 percent.
Karen B. Caparros (UP) and Lourdes C. Echavez-de Leon (Ateneo) also shared
seventh place with identical 85.9 percent, followed by Riafe M. Cagas (UP) at
eighth with 85.75 percent and Fritzie P. Tangkia (UP) in ninth slot with 85.55
percent, while Grainoil U. Baysa-Pee (Ateneo) was tenth with 85.5 percent.
In a two-page resolution, the 15-member Tribunal said it has relieved the head
of the 1999 Bar Committee, Justice Fidel Purisima, after he admitted that a
nephew took the examinations.
