Netflix comes out on top in the battle of the streaming video services , but it’s facing increased competition from upstarts like DC Universe, according to a new report from Parrot Analytics.
Netflix owns 71% of the global streaming video on demand (SVOD) market, the 2018 Global Television Demand Report found, and grabs 68% of the market in the U.S.

2 spot for global demand for digital originals in 2018, Parrot Analytics found, with 11% of the market.
In the U.S., the ranking was the same, with Amazon claiming 10% of the market, Hulu 9%, CBS All Access 5%, DC Universe 1%, and all others 7%.
CBS All Access did better with viewers interested in original dramas, while DC Universe was popular with those interested in action and adventure.
More than 319 new digital original series premiered in 2018, according to the report.
Given Netflix’s dominance in streaming originals, it’s no surprise that 16 of the top 20 series in the U.S. were from the service.
Overall, the six most popular digital originals last year in the U.S. were The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Titans, Stranger Things, Star Trek: Discovery, Orange Is the New Black, and 13 Reasons Why.
Amazon has roughly 100 million subscribers, while Hulu, which is only available in the U.S., has 25 million worldwide subscribers.
