LOS ANGELES — A 40-year-old man was arrested here last month by U.S. marshals, in connection with a murder warrant in Contra Costa County.
Police said whoever killed Singh trailed him from a nearby gas station, before shooting him multiple times on the 2200 block of San Jose Drive, around 3:30 a.m.
Police have not yet disclosed the suspected motive in Singh’s killing, but say both defendants are associated with a gang in Hunters Point.
The charging documents allege that Collins destroyed a car that was used in the shooting, on or about the same day that police released surveillance footage of the vehicle to the media.
Both have appeared in music videos alongside the rapper, one of which federal prosecutors cited in court filings, alleging it was evidence of gang membership in a 2018 gun case against Young.
The San Francisco District Attorney’s Office later dismissed all charges , saying there was evidence the two acted in self-defense.
Young argued self-defense and was convicted of only misdemeanor assault.
The jury found him and his co-defendant, Darius York, not guilty of murder .
In 2015, Young sued San Francisco County in federal court, alleging he was one of several inmates forced to participate in “fight club” rings organized by deputies.
Singh’s killing occurred Aug. 19, and went unsolved for months.
