SU student’s cat abuse More ‘cowardly’ than previously knownsyracuse.Com #Main_MenuMay 14, 2019
Syracuse, NY — A former Syracuse University student is headed back to China after admitting he threw his girlfriend’s cat against a wall.
“It’s extremely cowardly to slam a four-pound cat repeatedly into a wall,” Copani said at Wang’s sentencing.
The cat’s owner reported a domestic incident involving Wang.
But that incident didn’t cause lasting injuries to the girlfriend and had allegedly happened 10 months before.
However, the girlfriend at that time also revealed Wang’s abuse of the cat.
There were vet bills and life-threatening injuries to the pet.
That amounted to felony aggravated cruelty to animals.
Somehow, the kitten survived — albeit with a $3,000 vet bill.
Dougherty started an animal cruelty court while still a Syracuse City Court judge.
So the judge sentenced him to what amounts to no further punishment — a three-year conditional discharge.
